“Buckle up--this is another crazy ride!” The Scrapyard Ship sci-fi "cliff-hanger" adventures continue with HAB 12, the second book in the series Captain Jason Reynolds faces new challenges, not only on Earth but from the far side of the universe as well. The only way to stop the Craing this time will be to square off with them on their home turf. Jason's been informed that three powerful Craing warships, having similar technology as The Lilly, will soon be en route to Earth. The Alliance must destroy the Craing's wormhole means of distant space travel to avert Earth's total annihilation. Unfortunately, there's no way to reach the Craing worlds in time, at least not through conventional means. It's up to Jason and his hand-picked assault team to traverse, by advanced phase-shifting means, through the hazardous environment of HAB 12. This is an adventure fraught with carnivores of a Jurassic Age magnitude, and a terrain so deadly that turning back may be their only hope of survival. Note from the author Don't be surprised by cliff-hanger endings. I'll do my best to keep Scrapyard Ship as well as the Tapped In series books coming so you wont have long to wait for the next book. Enjoy!
Hab 12 A Scrapyard Ship Novel Volume 2 Mr Mark Wayne McGinnis Books
I put this book down half way through. Spoiler’s are in this review. I do not really do reviews so sorry if this reads poorly.I know many seals; none would even consider stepping into a hostile situation without a thorough understanding of their weapons and other gear. They would not thoroughly discharge the batteries in a hostile environment goofing around. Turn off scanning equipment when approaching an enemy encampment. Nor would they head into a potentially hostile situation in an undermanned ship,
But the most glaring stupidity was the VERY beginning, after the guy COMPLETELY in charge of everything, screws off for three weeks after a major battle does not even do a thorough after action assessment and ensure they are ready for the next potential engagement.
He had three weeks in the first few pages of the book to find the infiltrator, man the ship, yes, it needed repairs, but staffing could have been done at the same time. Evaluate weaponry and other equipment. Train with it, etc.
Instead he gets most of his team killed and repeatedly gets in difficult situations (that could have been avoided had he planned) he should not have gotten out of due to luck alone.
I am done reading this series.
Sorry Mark, I did like the first book.

Hab 12 A Scrapyard Ship Novel Volume 2 Mr Mark Wayne McGinnis Books Reviews
First let me say, kudos to Mark Wayne McGinnis for having the nuggets and tenacity to get his vision for his story out on paper (metaphorically speaking) and then out for public consumption. Many people think about doing it but few do. That said, the gentleman is a horrible writer. Horrible may be too strong but a poor writer for sure. His story does go from point A to point B but whereas many writers would skillfully weave a delicate latticework of story, dialog and vivid descriptiveness, this writer barrels through like a bull run amok in a room full of cute little fluffy bunnies. The bunny blood and fur that splatter the walls would be an excellent analogy for the gaping plot holes, lack of artful detail and ridiculous character patter. I literally kept wanting to put the book away but it got to the point where I just kept reading out of fascination to see how bad it could get. I will say the first couple chapters of his proceeding book "scrapyard ship" starts off with great writing but then it seemed like he got in a rush and started getting sloppy. Still the concept is creative and I know the author can write from those first few chapters.
This is the second book in the Scrapyard Ship series by Mark Wayne McGinnis. In this one Captain Jason Reynolds and his crew must find a "Backdoor" into the solar system of the Craing's home world in order to destroy their wormhole network which they use to raid and conquer other worlds. They find a way through the zoo on their ship "The Lily". Each display in the zoo is in fact a pocket universe containing segments of various planets and their native wildlife. They find a display that will lead them to the Craing's home world but it in itself is very dangerous. In the meantime their ship is attacked and then boarded by a bad of ruthless pirates. This book as was the first one in the series is a great read. I recommend it to all fans of Space Opera.
Well, I was rather put out with the first book in this series, “Scrapyard Ship”, for not ending properly but just stopping with a cliffhanger. Having already bought #2 & #3 in the series, I went ahead & read #2, “HAB 12”. It too ends in a cliffhanger! To me this indicates either a lazy author who doesn’t know how to properly end a story or else an author who is so insecure about his tale-spinning skills that he’s afraid I won’t read further unless tricked into it. Let me assure Mr. McGinnis that if I have a good experience with one of his books, I’m likely to search out others of his books. As it is, I’ll check out #3, “Space Vengeance”, and if it also ends in a cliffhanger I probably won’t bother reading it.
Why the recent fad for series anyway? Robert A. Heinlein wrote dozens of books, each a self-contained story, even those that share characters and milieus. I look forward to finding additional books about Honor Harrington written by David Weber, or John Scalzi’s follow-up books to “Old Man’s War”. Each of these is self-contained and satisfying in itself, while referring to characters and situations from earlier books by their respective authors. But they don’t need to be read in a certain order to be enjoyed.
I might also mention that Mr. McGinnis needs a better proofreader. Something bothersome comes along about every 10 pages. The only one I can remember now is “baiting” when “bating” obviously was meant, and in the context another word would have been a better choice.
Mr. McGinnis creates good characters that are fun to follow, but they deserve a triumph & a rest once in a while, instead of constantly being dragged on to the next crisis.
